Key points
- For Thursday, November 5, 2026, Transilien forecasts roughly one-third of normal RER D service in the Paris region.
- The RER B airport branch will run a reduced schedule; separate evening construction also affects the route.
- TGV routes face limited disruption, while regional and Intercités passengers should check their individual departure before traveling.
- Special refund arrangements depend on the operator and booking; a canceled train does not always trigger an automatic refund.

France’s rail strike on Thursday, November 5, 2026, brings reduced commuter services around Paris and disruptions on regional routes. SNCF’s published forecast describes high-speed TGV services as only slightly affected, with greater disruption on TER regional trains and Intercités long-distance services.
For visitors, the practical distinction is between a train’s status and the rest of the journey: a running mainline service does not establish that its connecting commuter train will operate.
Transilien forecasts fewer trains across Paris commuter routes
Transilien’s November 4 forecast sets out the following service levels. RER trains connect central Paris with its suburbs; lettered Transilien routes serve the wider metropolitan region.
| Service | Expected operation |
|---|---|
| RER A | Normal |
| RER B north / south | Half / two-thirds |
| RER C / D | Half / one-third |
| RER E | Two-thirds |
| H, N, U | About half |
| J, L | About two-thirds |
| P: Meaux–La Ferté-Milon | Two-thirds |
These are network or branch averages, rather than a promise of evenly spaced departures. Check both directions, especially for an evening return.

RER B airport passengers face separate evening works
The official RER B line bulletin confirms half the usual service north of Gare du Nord, toward Charles de Gaulle Airport and Mitry-Claye. South of that station, the forecast is two-thirds, with through trains maintained.
Allow extra airport transfer time.
The bulletin also lists construction from 10:45 p.m. between Châtelet–Les Halles and Charles de Gaulle Airport/Mitry-Claye, with replacement buses maintained. That work is separate from the strike, so an earlier daytime service forecast does not establish that a late airport journey will run by train.
RATP expects its Metro, bus and tram networks to operate normally, according to the same bulletin.
However, RATP’s construction notice confirms that the entire Metro 7bis line closes at 10 p.m. Thursday. Check station access and the final departure when planning an evening trip; normal strike-day operation does not remove scheduled construction.
Four unions back the walkout, Sortiraparis reports
According to Sortiraparis, CGT-Cheminots, UNSA-Ferroviaire, SUD-Rail and CFDT-Cheminots maintained their joint strike call after a Tuesday, November 3 meeting. These are railway workers’ labor organizations, rather than train operators or ticket sellers.
France’s transport code helps explain the advance forecasts.
Article L1324-7 requires employees in specified operational categories to declare participation at least 48 hours beforehand. Those declarations support service planning; the requirement does not mean every French worker must announce a strike individually.

SNCF Connect explains checks and conditional refund options
SNCF Connect advises checking by train number and travel date. Its disruption guidance distinguishes exceptional ticket arrangements from ordinary fare conditions.
- Look up your booked departure and every connection before leaving.
- Check booking messages, including email and text notifications.
- If exceptional measures cover your TGV INOUI or Intercités ticket, use the booking account to select an exchange or cancellation.
- Review Eurostar separately; follow its instructions if your international service is canceled.
A refund can require action in the account rather than happening automatically. For a new booking, compare change conditions before paying.
For Friday, November 6, and subsequent travel, check the forecast for that specific date. Thursday’s reduced timetable establishes neither a continuing disruption nor a guaranteed restoration of service.
