Prime Video is not done with James Reece. On Thursday, November 5, 2026, the streamer gave a series order to Savage Son, a new drama built around the former Navy SEAL that Chris Pratt has played since 2022.

The project adapts the third book in Jack Carr’s thriller series, and Pratt returns in the lead. According to TheWrap, the show comes from Amazon MGM Studios, MRC and Civic Center Media, the same companies behind the first two seasons.

Savage Son Is the Third Terminal List Show on Prime Video

Amazon describes the new series as a fast-moving military thriller in which Reece takes on the most personal and dangerous mission of his career so far.

It joins two shows already on the platform. The Terminal List launched in July 2022, adapting Carr’s first novel. A prequel, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, followed on August 27, 2025, with Taylor Kitsch as Ben Edwards. Its seven episodes ran weekly until September 24, 2025, and Pratt appeared in it as a younger Reece.

Season 2 of the main series arrived on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, with all eight episodes released at once. It adapted True Believer, Carr’s second novel.

Jack Carr’s official site lists the season 2 cast:

  • Chris Pratt as James Reece
  • Tom Hopper as Raife Hastings
  • Constance Wu as Katie Buranek
  • Dar Salim as Mohammed Farooq
  • Luke Hemsworth as Jules Landry
  • Gabriel Luna as Freddy Strain

Season 2 was produced by David DiGilio as showrunner, with Pratt, Antoine Fuqua and Carr among the executive producers.

What Happens in Jack Carr’s Savage Son Novel

The book came out on April 14, 2020, from Atria/Emily Bestler Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

In the novel, Reece is recovering from brain surgery in Montana, on a ranch owned by the family of his friend Raife Hastings. Journalist Katie Buranek is with him. Then a CIA traitor allied with a Russian crime family tracks Reece down and sends killers to the United States.

From there the story moves to Russia, Romania and a remote island off Siberia. Reece and Hastings bring together a team of former special operators for a revenge mission deep in enemy territory, and the book is often summed up as a deadly game of cat and mouse.

Those characters suggest familiar faces could come back, but none of them have been announced. For now, Pratt is the only confirmed cast member.

Season 3 or Standalone? Amazon Has Not Decided

The biggest open question is the format. Amazon calls Savage Son a new series, but it has not said whether it will be presented as season 3 of The Terminal List or as its own title within the same story. Coverage from the trade press does not settle it either.

The choice matters for viewers who follow the books in order. Savage Son picks up directly after True Believer, so on the page it reads as a straight sequel to season 2.

Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, said in the announcement that Carr’s work “has connected with audiences” because of the power of his storytelling.

Jack Carr Once Pictured Savage Son as a Movie

The series format marks a change from what the author said a little over a year ago. In an interview with ComicBook.com published on August 13, 2025, Carr said Savage Son “really lends itself to a film.”

He added at the time that a series was still an option, but that out of all his books, this one had the shape of a feature running between 90 minutes and two hours. The order confirms that Amazon took the series route.

The appetite for this world does not stop there. Carr has written several more James Reece novels after Savage Son, starting with The Devil’s Hand, so there is plenty of material if the franchise keeps going.

What Comes Next for Savage Son

Amazon has not given a release date, an episode count or a production start. No showrunner or other cast members have been announced.

Given the gap between earlier installments, viewers should not expect Savage Son soon. The first and second seasons were four years apart, partly because of the 2023 Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes. In the meantime, both seasons of The Terminal List and Dark Wolf are streaming on Prime Video.

A second season of Dark Wolf has not been ordered yet. Amazon’s next announcements on casting and filming will show whether the Reece story comes back as season 3 or as a new title in the franchise.
